Breaking! FIFA takes total soccer control in Africa on the eve of 2019 AFCON on alleged corruption in CAF
The World Cup has made plans to take over the African Football Confederation in the aftermath of corruption governing bodies for African soccer football.
The announcement is expected to be made on Thursday at a press conference in Egypt on the eve of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) before the hosts. Egypt takes Zimbabwe on Friday afternoon.
The New York Times reported that the decision had been taken due to the corruption scandal of the president of the president’s president. Ahmad Ahmad, who was briefly arrested in France to question France this month before being released.
There is also a stream of allegations of offense, ranging from financial mismanagement to sexual harassment against Ahmad, who continued to deny the allegations against him and claim to be the victim of a smear campaign
“Arranging Temporary FIFA High Commissioner for Africa would be to do a root and branch review of the management of the confederation, oversee the operational management of the organization and recommend a series of reform efforts where necessary what needs to be agreed with CAF, member associations and with FIFA to put CAF on a modern and healthy basis, to improve its image and reputation, and to ensure that CAF is better equipped to meet future challenges and understand future opportunities,
FIFA said in setting up the arrangement, according to an internal document seen by The New York Times.
